Instructional Options

There are many approaches that have proven successful in Spanish instruction for both groups and individuals of all ages.  What works for you will depend on your objectives, how much time you have available for study, and how flexible your schedule is.

Individual Instruction - A course of study can be tailored to your specific needs, schedule and circumstances.  Here are some of the objectives that can be met with individual instruction:

  • Improvement of general language comprehension for Spanish classes
  • Better communicate with a Spanish speaking worker.
  • Personalized academic tutoring.
  • Preparation for travel.
  • Foreign speeches or presentations.
  • Preparation for a language proficiency exam.

Conversation Groups - Small group Spanish lessons can also be utilized when 2 or more people share a common interest or objective.  This format allows you to improve your Spanish conversation with people at a similar level of proficiency.  We believe that groups from 2 to 5 in size offer the greatest opportunity to master Spanish but at a cost that is more reasonable than individualized instruction.  These are some examples of effective group study:

  • Neighborhood groups meet weekly to learn Spanish; lesson location can rotate between homes of the participants.
  • A more dispersed group can meet regularly at a restaurant.
  • A group of workers in a particular occupation (banking, health care) can meet for Spanish instruction tailored to their workplace situations.

Studying Spanish with others at your ability level has multiple advantages.  You will actually feel more comfortable because you are with other students who are working on the same language challenges that you are.  We also can learn from the mistakes others make.  Others who are still learning Spanish understand what you are struggling with and are very patient while you attempt to speak.
